Dr Carpet Consumer Guide
The Technician Changed the Price at the Door — Is That Normal?
A change in price is not automatically an upsell. Sometimes the job in the home is genuinely different from the job described on the phone. The important question is whether the change has a clear, job-related reason and whether you are free to approve or decline it before cleaning begins.

A Different Job Can Mean a Different Price
If a customer describes one room and the technician finds two areas, or describes a three-seat sofa that is actually a large sectional, the scope changed. The same can happen when photos or measurements did not show the full job.
A Different Treatment Should Be Explained
If a standard cleaning was booked but inspection shows a condition that calls for another treatment, the technician should explain what was found, why another method is recommended and what it costs. A different service should not simply appear on the bill afterward.
Three Questions to Ask Before Work Starts
Ask: What changed from the job I described? Why is a different service needed? What is my total price if I approve it? You should be able to understand the answer without pressure.
What Dr Carpet Does Before Bringing in Equipment
Our technician first verifies the items, size, condition and requested service. If the job matches what was described, the agreed service can proceed. If it does not, we discuss the difference first. The customer makes the decision before the machine comes through the door.
You Can Say No
If you do not want to proceed after the inspection, you can decline. Dr Carpet does not charge a trip fee simply because you chose not to proceed after the pre-cleaning inspection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is every onsite price change a bait-and-switch?
No. A materially different scope can justify a different price. The concern is a price change that is not clearly explained before work starts.
What if I described the job incorrectly?
The technician should explain how the actual job differs and provide the updated price before starting.
Can I decline the updated price?
Yes. With Dr Carpet, you can decline at the pre-cleaning inspection without a trip fee.
