Who cleans Oriental rugs in Brooklyn?
Dr Carpet provides Oriental rug cleaning throughout Brooklyn, including pickup and delivery for hand-knotted, wool, silk and other fine rugs that need more controlled care than an in-home surface cleaning. We evaluate construction, dyes, soil, stains and odor before recommending a process.
Oriental rug is a broad category — the rug still has to be identified
‘Oriental rug’ describes rugs made across many weaving regions and traditions. Construction, fiber, dye behavior and age vary widely, so the label alone does not determine the cleaning method. We inspect the individual rug and treat the actual materials and condition in front of us.
Controlled off-site cleaning when the rug calls for it
A fine rug may hold dry soil deep in the pile and foundation, and odor contamination can extend below the visible surface. For suitable rugs, pickup allows a more controlled sequence of inspection, dry-soil removal, washing or other matched cleaning, rinsing and managed drying. The cleaning is performed at a professional rug-cleaning facility; Dr Carpet coordinates pickup, service and delivery.
Color bleed and fiber risk
Some rug dyes can migrate when exposed to excess moisture, urine contamination, high pH or overly aggressive cleaning agents. We therefore pay attention to unstable or over-dyed colors and pretest suspicious areas before cleaning. Silk, viscose-like fibers, aged foundations and prior repairs may also change the risk profile.
Stains and odors: realistic expectations
We treat stains based on what caused them, how long they have been present and what has already been used on them. Pet urine, wine, coffee, food, unknown home spotters and water marks can behave very differently. Cleaning can improve many of these problems, but permanent dye loss, bleaching and some aged stains are not ordinary soil and cannot be promised away.
Fringe, edge and structural damage
If the rug needs more than cleaning, we can coordinate an evaluation for fringe work, binding or edge repair, tears, holes and other restoration needs. Structural work is priced separately after inspection and only proceeds with your approval.
Local service across Brooklyn
Pickup scheduling is available throughout Brooklyn, from Brownstone Brooklyn and Downtown to Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bay Ridge, Midwood, Flatbush, Crown Heights, Bensonhurst and nearby neighborhoods. Texting a photo, approximate size and ZIP code helps us route the job efficiently.
How the Brooklyn service works
Start with photos and the approximate rug size. We use that information to decide whether an on-site visit or pickup is the sensible next step. For pickup jobs, the rug is documented, inspected for fiber and construction issues, cleaned with a process matched to the textile, dried under controlled conditions and returned after review. If repair needs become visible after cleaning, they are discussed separately — cleaning does not automatically authorize restoration work.
What determines the price
Size is only one factor. Fiber, hand-knotted construction, heavy soil, urine contamination, difficult spotting and the level of cleaning required can change the scope. Our general off-site cleaning menu begins at $4 per square foot with a $140 minimum. Any fringe, edge, hole, moth or color-restoration work is quoted separately after a specialist has inspected the rug.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is an Oriental rug cleaned the same way as wall-to-wall carpet?
Not automatically. Hand-knotted construction, natural fibers and dye behavior can require a different, more controlled process.
Do you offer pickup and delivery in Brooklyn?
Yes. Pickup and return delivery are available across Brooklyn for rugs selected for off-site cleaning.
Can you clean antique Oriental rugs?
We can assess antique and heirloom rugs, but very fragile or conservation-level pieces may require a specialist approach. We will say so if the rug is outside ordinary cleaning.
Will you test the colors first?
When colors appear suspicious or the rug history raises concern, dye stability is evaluated before wet cleaning.
Can you remove urine odor?
Often it can be substantially improved when treatment reaches the affected materials, but results depend on the rug, contamination and previous treatments.
Do you repair Oriental rugs too?
We can coordinate specialist repair and restoration after the rug is cleaned and physically inspected. Any repair is quoted separately.
